The Seibel family resided in Herberts (about 3 miles south-west of Burghaun) prior to immigrating to Russia. The baptism and marriage records for residents of Herberts are recorded in the parish records of Burghaun. The spelling of the name varied from “Sippel” to “Sieppel” in the German church records. The spelling of “Seibel” is generally used in later records. Johannes Sippel, a linen weaver, married Anna Elisabetha Koch on 22 Apr 1749. Anna Elisabeth Koch was born 18 Jul 1728, the daughter of Johann Jacob Koch. The Seibel family arrived in Russia on 13 Sep 1766 with six children: Johann Conrad, born 27 Jan 1750; Anna Margaretha, born 28 Feb 1751; Anna Catharina, born 29 Mar 1753; Anna Catharina, born 2 Mar 1755; Johann Elias (baptism not found); and Anna Elisabetha, born 14 Jun 1760. Johannes died during the trip to Russia, and Anna Elisabeth married Peter Walter. The younger Seibel children are reported as part of the Walter family in Household #1 on the Walter First Settler’s List. Johann Conrad is reported with his wife in Household #33 on the Walter First Settler’s List.
